Teacher FAQs

Q: Do I have to complete all 12 Investigations?

A:  No. It would be very difficult for any class to complete all 12 Investigations in a year - there simply isn't enough time. At each year level there are a variety of Investigations to suit a wide range of interests, as well as teaching and learning styles. It is a good idea to read the introduction to each Investigation in the TRB before choosing which investigations you are going to include in your yearly teaching plan. When using iMaths for the first time, it is recommended to do one or two Investigations in each Term.

Q: What do I do with the Topics not included in the Investiations I choose?

A: You should teach these Topics separately. By the end of the year, you should have covered all Topics in the Student Book, either by teaching them as part of an Investigation or on their own.

Q: How can I keep track of which Topics I have yet to teach and which ones I have already taught?

A: Your iPlanner disc, which comes with every Teacher Resource Book, will help you manage this. When you open your iPlanner, on the left of the screen, you will see a list of All Investigations and a bank of All Topics. On the right, you will see a blank plan with tabs for Semester 1 and Semester 2. When you drag Topics from the All Topics window across to the plan, you will see them turn dark blue, indicating that they are now in your plan.

When you drag an Investigation across to your plan, the iPlanner will automatically bring with it all those Topics that need to be taught before you do the Investigation. These will also turn dark blue. Once all of the boxes in the All Topics window are dark blue, all the necessary Topics listed in the Essential Learnings for your year level are covered.

Q: Why do I need an Access Code and where do I find it?

A: If your students are all using the iMaths Student Books, then you are eligible to access the weblink URLs and copies of all Data pages, Tear-outs and Black Line Masters for each Investigation. You can get your access code by going to www.imaths.com.au/register and choose your subscription.

When your account is created, you will be able to login and get an access code that corresponds to your iMaths product. Your students should record it in the front of their Student Books. Remind your students that they can use their code to access the website at school or at home. Your Access Code is free and will last till the end of the current school year.

Q: I've registered for the trial, but why can't I access the BLMs to every Investigation?

A: When you register for a free trial, you will gain access to everything you need to try one Investigation with your class. Registering for a free trial will not give you access to the other Investigations on our website. You need to have the iMaths Student Books booklisted in your class to gain access to the online materials for all Investigations.

Administrator FAQs

Q: I want my teachers to create their own program. Does iMaths allow this?

A: Yes. iMaths is a teacher driven program, not a book driven program. Teachers choose which Investigations they want to complete with their class and also when they want to teach them. Teachers can also choose which Topics they are going to teach separately and when they are going to teach these. Using the iPlanner teachers can easily plan an entire year, Term by Term, of teaching, learning and assessment.

Q: We don't use workbooks in my school, but my teachers are impressed with iMaths. How can we use iMaths in my school?

A: iMaths will only be beneficial for your teachers and students if implemented in it's entirety, with each student having the Student Book and Tracker Book and the teacher having the Teacher Resource Book. IMaths is a complete maths program that encompasses the planning, implementing and assessing of investigations and has been designed, when implemented in it's entirety, to cover both dimensions of the Essential Learnings - Knowledge and understanding and Ways of working.

The Investigations are included in the Student Books, so only classes booklisting iMaths Student Books are eligible to access the website containing weblinks and BLMs for the Investigations. If your teachers would like to use iMaths in their classrooms there is a FREE trial available on the website. This free trial gives teachers access to all the student, Tracker and Teacher Resource Book pages as well as exclusive access to the weblinks and BLMs for 1 investigation.

Q: Does iMaths link with other KLAs?

A: Yes. iMaths investigations link with other KLAs so teachers can make the most of their class time. Suggested links are provided in the Teacher Resource Books.

Q: How will iMaths help my schools NAPLAN testing results?

A: iMaths not only teaches students maths concepts but also asks them to apply this knowledge to real-life situations. This application of knowledge means that students are developing their maths skills to solve unfamiliar problems. The Tracker Book provides assessment questions similar to those provided on the NAPLAN tests, to help students become familiar with the process. The Tracker Book questions are graded, ranging from recall and basic application of knowledge to higher-order thinking skills and application of Knowledge and understanding.

Q: How can I be sure my teachers are covering all the Essential Learnings with iMaths?

A: Firstly iMaths comprehensively covers both dimensions of the Essential Learnings - Knowledge and understanding (Topics) and Ways of working (Investigations). An electronic planning tool, the iPlanner, is included with each TRB. This allows teachers to create their own plan by selecting the investigations they wish to do and clearly identifying the Topics taught as a pre-requisite to those investigations as well as those Topics needing to be taught independently. To see in detail hoe iMaths covers the Essential Learnings, download a Scope and sequence document click here.

Q: Can our school still access the Weblinks, Black LIne Masters, Data Pages and Tear-outs if we hove booklisted iMaths only in certain year levels?

A: Yes! As long as every student in the class has access to an iMaths Student Book, you may register to access the online components of the program for that year level. This includes the Weblinks, Black Line Masters, Data Pages and Tearouts for the year level iMaths is book listed in.

Q: How do our Teacher Aide, Intervention Teachers etc access the iMaths website?

A: The everyday teacher of the class will register to get an access code for their class. This "class code" will be the code both the everyday teacher and support teachers use to access the iMaths website. Only one access code is needed per class.
