Teaching resources

Deliver an ‘I do, we do, you do’ approach

I do – Maths Trek Online is home to lesson guides, teaching slides, interactive teaching tools, videos and exemplars for you to explicitly teach each topic, problem-solving strategy and investigation.

We do – The Student Book is packed with teacher-guided activities and modelled examples for you to discuss and work together with your students.

You do – Students apply what they’ve learned in the lesson to the independent activities in their Student Books.

Investigations

Explore maths in real-world contexts

In-depth investigations provide valuable opportunities to immerse your students in unfamiliar, extended mathematical problems.

From devising a cafe menu to planning a round-the-world trip, students are required to apply their maths knowledge and critical thinking skills to relevant, real-world problems.

Assessment

Compile a comprehensive portfolio to evaluate student achievement

Maths Trek embeds assessment throughout the year. Use these assessments in conjunction with your observations and teacher judgement to inform each student’s overall achievement in mathematics.

Assessing topics: Summative tests are designed to help you assess a student’s understanding of the preceding topics. Foundation includes two semester tests and Years 1 to 6 include four termly tests, all timed to align with your reporting.

Assessing investigations: Bespoke questions and checklists are included in the final step of each investigation to help you assess and record how well students are able to reflect, reason and communicate their understanding of what they have discovered.

Assessing problem-solving: A handy progress checklist accompanies the problem-solving practice tasks to help you assess a student’s ability to: interpret a problem, identify and use problem-solving strategies, and write a logical sequence of working to find a solution.

Note: Features differ across year levels. Foundation includes a detailed progress checklist to help you track student achievement in topics and investigations. Foundation does not include explicit problem-solving resources.

Marked paperRevision Chevron

Maths Trek includes regular revision so students can consolidate their learning, and you can monitor their understanding of recently taught maths concepts.

The Student Book includes revision activities that target the topics taught in the preceding 4 to 5 weeks.

Maths Trek Online includes projectable answers for all revision activities. Links to the topics covered by each question are also included so you can easily navigate to the relevant lessons if students require further consolidation.

Problem-solving plays a key role in Maths Trek. Embedded throughout the year, you’ll find problem-solving strategies and plenty of problem-solving practice tasks.

Problem-solving strategies: Use the lesson guides, teaching slides and videos at Maths Trek Online to explicitly teach the strategy, then have students complete the corresponding Work together and Your turn activities in the Student Book.

Problem-solving practice tasks: Students work independently in their Student Books to apply their higher order thinking skills. Each practice task includes critical thinking prompts that encourage students to identify their chosen strategies and extend their thinking.

Marked paperInteractive tools Chevron

Maths Trek Online is home to a suite of versatile interactive tools – a hundreds chart, spinner, place value chart and clock.

These tools can be used anytime in the week for games or extra practice, as well as within your Maths Trek lessons. Where the tools are part of the lesson flow, they are pre-set to relevant settings so you can jump in and start teaching right away.
